Reflection of Music #2 Term2

On October 15th 2009, I learned how to make 8 bar songs with my music classmates with the pattern of AA'BA', AA'BB' and the like. When we make our own composition, there are some rules such as making the pattern which has their own characteristics. And Mr. Hery gave us homework to put lyric to our own composition using any kind of subject. I used the pattern of AA'BA'. So, i made the first new row which is A and the second new bar which was little modified from the row of A and i named it as A'. The next bar which is B was totally different with those 2 rows of 8 bars. and the fianal row is same as the A' which i made before. When the thoery class was finished, we had such a difficult homework to put the lyric on our own composition.

From this part, i am very interested because there is little chance to make the composition by my hand. So that, i was very excited to complete my homework as well as used the pattern of AA'BA'. And then i used to play the piano until grade 7, so that it was little easy for me to make a song and singing the western song instructed by Mr. Hery was also very helpful.

However, there are some problems while i was making the composition. I was not that good to make a song for using bass since my instrument was cello. And then, i have to rethink about the scale in bass and it took my time much more.

The strength in this task is that my musical inspiration was developed by singing some songs like western music 'la bam ba' and 'what a wonderful world' as well as the indonesian song ' gundul-gundul pa cul '. Actually, i didn't have any idea to make my own composition at first but after the help of those songs, i could finally finish it well.

The weakness of this tasks was that i was not really good at using the pattern such as AABA' adn the like. There are a lot of kinds of patterns except the pattern of AABA'. The kinds of patterns make me confued with knowing the melody. However, i could overcome it with the help of Mr.Hery and my friends.

Reflection of Music #1 Term2

On October 6th, we were distributed the homework for making our own composition from Mr. Hery, our music thoery teacher. The composition that we were making is the composition for the solo performance. When we had to make our own composition, we need to know how the melody should be arranged to attract attention of audience and for a good song everyone. So that, we have learned the traditional song called Gundul-Gundul Pacul-cul.

When i have learned this kind of theories, i encountered many problems. First of all, i didn't have any idea how to make my own composition by hand. Before, i have played my instrument, cello, with the melody that already made by some composers. However, at this time, it is highly different. I need to compose and perform myself as well. When i started to compose, the idea box was blank at all, and i want to give up also. However, from learning some traditional western song which was instructed by Mr.Hery is very helpful for me to complete it. Becasue i have some kind of inspiration and idea from the song as well as the melody from the song could be used in my song with different ways. The second problem is learning traditional song. The pronounciation and the rythm was not familiar with me. However, my problem was solved with my practice and help from my friends and teachers.

Furthermore, there are some parts that i want to change for the next time if i have a chance to challenge. Learning the western song is not really satisfied with me because i couldn't concentrate in two parts ; rythm and pronounciation. So that, i will try to remember and memorize the lyric and have no problem in pronounciation part.
